Why is Military and Defense so Important to the Nation?

The U.S needs to take a strategic approach when dealing with all 3 of these threats, the conventional side of war being used against ISIL to combat the Global War on Terror (GWOT) is not going to work against other threats such as Russia and China. Both Russia and China are waging an unconventional war with the U.S. A war based off cyber warfare, the U.S loses on trillions of dollars each year due to IP theft from these countries, predatory trade agreements, while propaganda is pushed on to the American populous by both countries through cyberwarfare to destabilize the economy and overall American way of life.

How is the U.S Department of Defense (DoD) Dealing with these Threats?

The U.S Secretary of Defense and the Military Departments (MILDEPs) are currently working on a 16-year, 4 phase operation for modernization. Where our DoD is currently working on a portfolio of 6 different priories to increase the strength of our defense departments. The MILDEPs are facilitating the modernization of our weapon systems, network systems, and manpower in order to be able to react to any threat from the big 3 in the near future.
