Why is Environmental Safety Important to Kurt?
Environmental safety is important to Kurt because the environment is our future, and it is the epitome of our existence of life. Without a safe environment, all forms of life would cease on earth as we know it. Kurt as a medical officer in the Army and a policy analyst for the Department of Defense (DoD) has worked on many policies to improve environmental safety and cultivate a healthy environmental ecosystem. We have only one earth, we must take care of our planet and ensure that both people and environment can coexist in harmony.
Kurt is also interested in how the environment shapes human health. Researching the correlation and statistics behind environmental health and human disease. Environmental determinants of health can have a huge impact on public health and force readiness. Kurt is working with Total Force Fitness (TFF) right now to review how environmental factors shape human health. He hopes to gain more knowledge in the future as he conducts this in-depth analysis.
What Has Kurt Done for Our Environment?
- Improved military environmental policy, allowing for more efficient Mission Oriented Protective Posture (MOPP) gear
- Fought pesticide lobbyists on Capitol Hill, pushing for overuse of harmful chemicals in our environment and food sources
- Worked with Department of Defense (DoD) leaders to establish better chemical clean-up procedures
- Ensure that Army unit remained compliant with all environmental regulations
- Worked with the Department of Force Safety and Occupational Health (FSOH) to update policies for military personnel to mitigate safety hazards in our environment.
